VIP
VIP stands for Vietnamese Insights into Aging Program.
Disparities in Health and Research in Vietnamese American Community
- Although Vietnamese Americans are the 4th largest Asian American subgroup, the community’s risk of dementia is unknown.
- Certain health conditions put Vietnamese Americans at higher risk for ADRD compared to Non-Hispanic Whites. These include experiences of early life adversity, war trauma and immigration stress, hypertension, stress, diabetes, and depression.
VIP aims to better understand these factors and how they impact thinking and memory in the Vietnamese American community.
Study Goal
- To enroll 285 people at UC Davis and 285 people at UC San Francisco with a total of about 570 people in Northern California

COMPASS
COMPASS stands for COVID-19 Effects on the Mental and Physical Health of Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders Survey Study.
The COVID-19 pandemic is an ongoing crisis that could last at least a couple of years, with a high likelihood that it will occur in waves for an unpredictable period of time. As a result, not only does the US need to adapt to a new “normal”, but it is imperative that the US gathers critical data (e.g., comprehensive assessment of the impact of COVID-19 on the population) and respond to the needs of diverse populations as part of the public health infrastructure.
COMPASS is a nationwide online survey dedicated to understanding the mental and physical health impacts of COVID-19 on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Our mission is to recruit 2,500 participants, forming a collective voice that informs future policies, programs, and groundbreaking research initiatives.
